Novomatic Software, Casinos and Slots
Novomatic is not just a simple games developer; the Austrian company is a world leader in gambling entertainment with offices in over 50 countries and a workforce surpassing 30,000 in 2017.
While creating thrilling slots and table games is at the core of their DNA, the company owns and operates off and online casinos and gambling arcades, reaching across the globe from Peru to Russia and from the UK to Australia. Such is the popularity that the odds are high that anyone who ever visited a casino anywhere in the world will have played a few rounds on a game from Novomatic.
It all started in 1980 with their signature Admiral gaming machines, a name that is still omnipresent today. Rapid expansion in the following years took them beyond the borders of their headquarters in scenic Austria, introducing their gaming cabinets to a worldwide audience. By 1991, Novomatic had representations in over 30 countries, which was heavily aided by the fall of the Iron Curtain. Today, the Novomatic Group is one of the largest gaming technology suppliers in the world, with a €5+ billion turnover in 2019.
The most iconic Novomatic slot machines date back to the pre-online era. Book of Ra, Lord of the Ocean, Lucky Lady’s Charm, Dolphin’s Pearl were all released in the first decade of the century, years before Novomatic entered the online casino market. In fact, they arrived very late on the scene, namely in 2010 when they turned a subsidiary into their interactive arm.
The Novomatic Interactive Division: Greentube
Greentube has since signed responsibility for the launch of their digital platform, distributing Novomatic slots at first to a small number of handpicked online casino operators only. Reportedly, the main reason was to protect their land-based casinos from losing revenue due to punters playing the games from the comfort of their home.
However, the rapid growth in online and especially mobile gaming saw Novomatic shift gears somewhere around 2015 and focus more of its attention and resources to online casinos. They went as far as launching own casino brands under their signature names Admiral and StarVegas.
A short foray into live casino games under the name Extreme Live Gaming was divested in 2019. At the same time, the number of online casinos listing Novomatic (Greentube) slots and table games has risen sharply over the last years, much to the pleasure of their huge fan base who are transitioning to online gaming.
